Dr Isla Fishburn own Kachina Canine - a conscious wellness company for all of life. She has a BSc in Zoology and a MBiolSci and PhD in Conservation Biology. Isla is passionate about bringing science and indigenous wisdom together to promote health and wellness for all life, and uses dogs as a model for how we can achieve this.
Isla has spent several years interacting with large groups of captive wolves, wolf hybrids, wolf dogs and domestic dogs where she learned to apply her knowledge about conservation, wellness and canine biology to educate dog guardians, professionals and researchers about canine wellness, health and conservation.
As a canine wellness advocate, Isla focuses on many aspects of a canine to improve and support longevity, happiness, balance and harmony. Her running theme is always on ecosystem conservation, from the individual level up. She uses a range of techniques, therapies and methods based on her knowledge as a zoologist as well as her time spent with captive wolves and how she learnt about their wellness, symbolism and ceremony.
Isla has an extensive list of other qualifications that she has gained in furthering her knowledge of wellness and to provide the best support she can to conserve the health and longevity of all of life.
This is a good definition of ringcraft training, copied from the UK Kennel Club's website: "A great deal of time and effort goes into presenting a dog for exhibition at a show and even getting your dog to perform in the ring is a lot harder than it looks. A dog that only wants to slouch in the corner, or ambles around the ring ungracefully will not impress the judge. It is important that you learn how to present your dog in the show ring to show off all its finer points.
This can be very difficult to achieve; the dog has got to want to show off for its owner or handler in the show ring and you must work hard together to build this rapport. The people who run Ringcraft clubs have a great deal of experience in the 'show scene' and will be able to show you all the techniques to get the best out of your dog."
Ringcraft classes at The Dog House are run by Dawn Inett who is an International Championship show judge of Cairn Terriers. Dawn has judged Speciality championships in USA, Canada, Scandinavia and all over Europe. Dawn is also approved to judge Hungarian Pumis and Australian Terriers.
