Puppy Training with The Dog House and the Kennel Club Good Citizen Puppy Foundation Course

Puppy Foundation  Course

Starts 29 September 2018  Saturday 12.30 – 1.30

This course runs for 10 wks but you only have to attend 8 out of the 10 weeks to gain your puppy Foundation Certificate and Rosette! This allows you to take your holiday as the course crosses peak holiday times!

Your puppy should have had his or her puppy vaccinations and should ideally be about 12 wks of age to join our course

We run our course with small numbers (only FIVE pups) so this gives us time to work through all the exercises and you and your puppy receive quality information and training

We will cover:

2.      How to care for your puppy

3.      Diet and Nutrition

4.      How to keep your puppy healthy

5.      Ensure your puppy knows his name

6.      Learn how to play calmly with your puppy

7.      How to groom your puppy

8.      Learn how to effectively socialise your puppy with

  •          people,
  •          situations and
  •          other dogs

9.      Teach your puppy:-

  •          how to come when you call
  •          sit, stand and lie down
  •          walk on a lead
  •          stay
  •          leave a toy/treat and
  •          not to snatch food

Towards the end of the course you can join us on an optional trip to Severn Valley Railway in Kidderminster!

When you and your puppy both complete the entire course you will receive a certificate and rosette and can always progress to our Bronze Good Citizen course to be held later this year!

Ringcraft - Dog Show Training

This is a good definition of ringcraft training, copied from the UK Kennel Club's website: "A great deal of time and effort goes into presenting a dog for exhibition at a show and even getting your dog to perform in the ring is a lot harder than it looks. A dog that only wants to slouch in the corner, or ambles around the ring ungracefully will not impress the judge. It is important that you learn how to present your dog in the show ring to show off all its finer points.

This can be very difficult to achieve; the dog has got to want to show off for its owner or handler in the show ring and you must work hard together to build this rapport. The people who run Ringcraft clubs have a great deal of experience in the 'show scene' and will be able to show you all the techniques to get the best out of your dog."

Ringcraft classes at The Dog House are run by Dawn Inett who is an International Championship show judge of Cairn Terriers. Dawn has judged Speciality championships in USA, Canada, Scandinavia and all over Europe. Dawn is also approved to judge Hungarian Pumis and Australian Terriers.

Ringcraft classes run weekly and are prebookable on a 4 weekly basis for only £12
