The very first dog show in the UK was organised in 1859. Today there are approximately 5000 shows each year.
Dog shows allow breeders and owners to show off their dogs.
Much work has been done of late to improve the health of many pure breed show dogs and although there is still much to be done the health of our show dog population is slowly improving.
The welfare of your dog should always be foremost in your dog’s showing life.
If you are interested in showing your dog/s your best starting place would be to go to a local show training class. These classes are known as Ringcraft classes. Here you can meet people with experience in showing dogs.
If you go to a show you are bound by rules and regulations these can be learned about as you go but one of the most important is the Kennel Club Code of Conduct which can be found at www.thekennelclub.org.uk
If you would like to find out more about showing your dog and attending our ringcraft classes then please call The Dog House on 01905452078
